    About EAW - Electrolyzed Activated Water

    What is Electrolyzed Activated Water (EAW)?

    According to Wikipedia, Electrolyzed water (electrolyzed water, EOW, ECA, electrolyzed oxidizing water, electro-activated water or electro-chemically activated water solution) is produced by the electrolysis of ordinary tap water containing dissolved sodium chloride.[1] The electrolysis of such salt solutions produces a solution of hypochlorous acid and sodium hydroxide. The resulting water can be used as a disinfectant.[2]

    How does it help the agricultural sector?

    After harvest, EAW can be applied to sanitize equipment and produce to help maintain shelf life to market. 

    EAW has the potential to clean and sanitize processed fruit and vegetables safely, efficiently, economically and sustainably.

    • HOCl (Hypochlorous acid) is also produced by neutrophils in the human body to fight infections. 
    • Concentration and treatment level depends on the amount of organic matter present, contact time, pH, temperature, agitation and the presence of protective biofilms.
